The Sysex
Database (courtesy of @
October 28) is a collection of
downloadable
system exclusive data, some of it for the Sound Canvas.
Colin Gavin
created these Studioware files for the SC-8850. One is called
64 Part MIDI Pitch Control; the other is
64 Part MIDI Expression Control.
Steve Sherwood

Another
two RL MIDI files containing sysex to change SC55 and '88
compatible Canvases to the MT32/CM64 sound sets.
This
MIDI file of mine (yours if you want it) has sysex that will pan
all drum tones on part 10 to center position (for SC-55 and compatible).
This can be useful for those who need to change the instruments in their
kits from stereo to monaural image. It produces an effect similar
to combining left and right channel outputs with a y-adaptor, only it
won't put other sound elements (eg stereo reverb, stereo chorus, and
other non-drum parts) into the same mono phase. In other words, the
two-dimensional sound of your Canvas remains otherwise intact.
This
zip has two MIDI files I put together which mute and unmute (rx
note-on) all 16 parts of SC55 and compatible synths. They also turn
channels 1 through 16 on and off en masse.
The Choir
Aahs Sysex and MIDI File Collection, for SC55 and 55-mapped Sound
Canvases (SC88+), came about because of requests by SCUG members for
tweaks of General MIDI patch #53--Choir Aahs. This zip archive currently
has 21 patches in raw MIDIEX (.syx) and MIDI file format (.mid). A
descriptive text file is also provided. (G. Braun)
Chas Stoddard's Microtonality &
Scale Temperaments for the Roland Sound Canvas -- an incredible
collection of alternate tunings in MIDI file format.
Larry Kehl is offering
Cakewalk instrument definition (.ins) files for the SC-880. The
zip file has one .ins for drum sets and one
for instruments, including user tone banks and user kits.
Justonic Tuning has these
MIDI files for
Roland GS synths, which demonstrate the difference between just
intonation (justonic) and equal tempered tunings.
Oksala Jouni has produced
this SC-880 .ins file with patch and
performance information added (no drums).
Gary Agnew's demos:
finetune.mid,
bender.mid,
drumpan.mid
illustrate the effects of rpn and nrpn on fine tuning, pitch
transposition, and panning of percussion instruments. Gary also
made a sysex
file that sets voice reserve to zero for all parts (SCC1/55 or
compatible).

CANVASEL.ZIP
contains a single Cubase Score *.ARR file which provides instant easy
access to every single one of a M-GS64/SC88 module's hundreds of voices.
a) 1 click selects any sound by name.
b) additionally all Bank Select+Program Change messages can be lifted
from the List Editor, via cut'n'paste, for inclusion in SMFs etc.
CANVAS88.ZIPcontains four of the very
highest quality Cubase Mixermaps available anywhere for the Sound Canvas
series -
GS64
FX.MIX gives total access to internal FX for M-GS64/SC88.
GS64P15.MIX lets you create truly monster
synth sounds by layering up to five Parts on a single MIDI Channel.
RHY TUNE.MIX is a Mixermap innovatively
laid out to resemble a MIDI keyboard. This sends NRPN messages to tune
all Canvas Drums. NB -No sysex means glitch-free recordable "on-the-fly"
editing of individual GS drum tuning parameters.
VIB TVFA.MIX is a NRPN based TVF/A GS
control panel for all 16 Parts. NB -No sysex means glitch-free
recordable "on-the-fly" editing of GS parameters.
MICROTUN.ZIP
contains Microtuning Mixermaps for all 16 Canvas Parts. Each Map laid
out to resemble one octave of a keyboard for easy reference.
MONSTER.ZIP contains a Sysex Midifile which
demonstrates the kind of mega synth Patch that can be created using
Martin Heath's nifty gs64pf15.mix Cubase Mixermap --> one of the
utilities in CANVAS88.ZIP.
These
demo MIDI files for the SC-88Pro, provided

Robert W Greaves has prepared a
new .ins definition file for Cakewalk 8.0.
To quote the author, "I completely refurbished the M-GS64
definition so that all three maps use a similar approach.
Hopefully this version will not require rewriting when (if) the map "4"
Sound Canvas is released. ... the zip file contains a RichTextFile and
one Instrument definition file. All musical sounds and drum sounds
for the 55, 88, and 88 Pro are contained within it so that the
instrument definition can be used by any Sound Canvas. Each of the
three basic Sound Canvases can restrict the definition to the maps they
contain and still have the Cakewalk browser advantages."

Dean Brewer of SCUG has put
together some .cal and .syx files for use
with the SC88Pro -
SC-88RQ1.SYX
requests all temporary EFX params.
!SC88PRO.CAL sends out multiple dump
requests to the 'Pro, which in turn will send back EFX values for each
of the parameters requested. To quote from the author, "The
standard dump request macro supplied with the SC88Pro only requests the
user effects bank which in most cases is not what you want. It also
makes the packet smaller by 95% or so than any other method."
DRUMSPLI.CAL takes a single drum track and
splits it into separate tracks for each instrument used throughout a
song, isolating drum tones, thereby making individual velocity
adjustments much easier. It has the added feature of putting in the
correct name for each instrument. It also asks for the source track, the
first of the destination tracks, and what port and MIDI channel the
split notes will be directed to.
ChartChai MeeSangNin has also
written some .CALs for CWP and the Sound Canvas. They are
DrumUtil.zip
(33 KB) and Tweaks.zip
(6kb). Read about them
